Psychodiagnostic Assessment in Ottawa
In-depth psychological assessments providing diagnostic clarity for complex mental health concerns. Our registered psychologists deliver comprehensive evaluations to guide effective treatment planning for children, adolescents, and adults.

Understanding the Process
What Is a Psychodiagnostic Assessment?
A psychodiagnostic assessment is a comprehensive psychological evaluation designed to clarify diagnoses related to mental health, emotional functioning, personality, and behaviour. Unlike a brief clinical appointment, this process involves multiple methods of data collection to ensure accurate, comprehensive conclusions that account for the full complexity of your experience.
This type of assessment is particularly valuable when symptoms are complex, overlapping, or have not responded to previous treatment. It provides the diagnostic clarity needed to ensure that therapy, medication, and other interventions are properly targeted rather than based on incomplete information.
At Stradwick Clinic, all psychodiagnostic assessments are conducted by registered psychologists with expertise in comprehensive psychological evaluation. Our thorough approach ensures that each individual receives an accurate diagnostic picture and meaningful, tailored recommendations.

Who Is This Assessment For?
Who We Help
We provide psychodiagnostic assessments for individuals across the lifespan who are seeking clarity about their mental health and psychological functioning.
Adults
Adults often pursue a psychodiagnostic assessment when they are experiencing persistent emotional, behavioural, or relational difficulties that have not responded to previous treatment, or when diagnostic clarity is needed to guide effective care. Our psychologists have experience identifying complex presentations, including conditions that overlap or co-occur.
Children & Adolescents
Parents and caregivers may seek a psychodiagnostic assessment when a child or adolescent is struggling with emotional regulation, behaviour, social functioning, or mental health concerns that require a clear diagnostic understanding to inform appropriate support and intervention.
When is this assessment recommended? A psychodiagnostic assessment is often recommended when there are questions about diagnosis, when previous treatment has not been effective, when multiple conditions may be present, or when a comprehensive understanding of psychological functioning is needed to guide care.
What the Assessment Involves
The Process
Our assessment process is thorough and individualized, designed to address your specific referral questions while creating a safe, respectful evaluation experience.
Initial Intake & Background Review
We begin by gathering a detailed personal, medical, and mental health history. You will complete intake questionnaires covering current concerns, previous diagnoses or treatment, and relevant life circumstances prior to your first appointment.
Clinical Interview
A comprehensive clinical interview with the assessing psychologist explores your presenting concerns, emotional and behavioural patterns, relationships, coping strategies, and how difficulties are affecting your daily functioning. For children, this includes a thorough parent or caregiver interview.
Psychological Testing
You will complete a battery of validated psychological measures selected to address your specific referral questions. These may include personality inventories, symptom checklists, projective measures, cognitive screening, and other instruments relevant to diagnostic clarification.
Collateral Information
When appropriate, we gather perspectives from family members, partners, previous treatment providers, or other relevant sources. This helps us understand how symptoms present across settings and over time.
Integration & Diagnostic Formulation
Your psychologist carefully integrates all collected data—clinical history, interview findings, test results, and collateral information—to develop a comprehensive diagnostic formulation that addresses your referral questions.
Feedback & Comprehensive Report
You receive a detailed written report with diagnostic conclusions, a clinical formulation, and individualized treatment recommendations. A feedback session is provided to review findings, answer questions, and collaboratively discuss next steps.

“Clarity about what you’re experiencing is the first step toward meaningful change.”

How Your Results May Be Used
After Assessment
A comprehensive psychodiagnostic assessment provides the foundation for targeted treatment, informed medical decisions, and a deeper understanding of your psychological functioning.
Treatment Planning
A clear diagnostic picture allows therapists, physicians, and psychiatrists to develop targeted treatment plans. Understanding the specific nature of your difficulties ensures that interventions are matched to your needs rather than based on general assumptions.
Medication Guidance
When medication is being considered, your assessment report provides the diagnostic clarity that physicians and psychiatrists need to make informed prescribing decisions, particularly when symptoms are complex or overlapping.
Disability & Insurance Documentation
A formal psychodiagnostic report can provide documentation for disability claims, insurance applications, or workplace accommodations under the Ontario Human Rights Code, supporting your access to appropriate benefits and support.
Self-Understanding & Direction
Beyond formal documentation, many individuals find that a comprehensive psychological assessment brings clarity to longstanding patterns, validates their experiences, and provides a clear path forward for personal growth and recovery.
