Our Autism assessment is based on collecting information from multiple sources, through the use of evidence-based tests. The Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R) is used by a trained psychologist to collect information from parents/caregivers about an individual’s development and behaviour. The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is a standardized assessment of autism, developed for a variety of ages and developmental skills. This assessment is used by a trained psychologist to obtain information about a child’s current behaviour. In addition to these Autism specific tests, a cognitive evaluation is conducted to determine an individual’s intellectual abilities. Normed questionnaires, completed by caregivers and classroom teachers, are used to further understand a child’s behaviour and emotions, as well as their adaptive skills. When needed, additional information about a child’s behaviour is obtained through teacher interviews or school observations. The entire process typically spans four to eight weeks, with the specific timeframe customized based on individual needs.
Preschoolers (1 – 5yr) will be seen within a month of their referral, to ensure quick access to services when appropriate
